FARMERS MARKET!!!

Can you tell by the subject line that I'm excited about the Farmers Market?

I LOVE the farmers market. It's one of my favorite...wait...it's my favorite place to be on Saturday morning if I am not in my bed.  The market is part of my Saturday routine after my morning walk.  In fact, I'd even go so far as to say that I'm addicted to farmers markets.  I can go to a market everyday, but Monday.  And that's because I don't know where one is located.  But if I looked hard enough, I'm sure I could find one.

I can't even say when my love for the market began, but I can tell you, there is nothing better than fresh picked fruits and vegetables.  This is yet another my way to ensure I am eating healthy.  Mainly because when I buy my fruits and veggies, I'm preparing/snacking on them during the week.  Do you eat 4-5 servings per day?  It's really challenging and something you have to be very conscious of.  Try it!

My absolute favorite time to shop at the market is summer time.  I love the summer fruits the best.  Oh...the peaches, nectarines, and sweet corn.. Just the thought right now is making me happy.

During the winter months, selecting fruits is a bit more challenging for me, but I buy at least one apple and orange.  I supplement other fruits with grocery store items that are imported.  Winter veggies are fun because I've been introduced to kale and chard.  There are so many different colors and they look beautiful.  I tend to buy a mixed bunch of kale and I'm so very excited to saute them with my Sunday meal.  I wash them all and put them in a zip lock bag.  I continue to enjoy my kale during the week, so I have fresh kale with my dinner.  Sometimes, that's all I eat.  Another great winter find are greens.  Again, I saute them as well.  For something different, I'll drizzle apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, or lemon juice on either and enjoy.  If you haven't visited a farmers market, I highly encourage you to do so.  There is so much more there and I'm sure you will find and enjoy something new.

My 1st love...is leaving

My scooter was life changing and the new love of my life.  It made getting around so much easier and I could not have been happier to have it.

Last week, I had to bid my scooter farewell.  Such memories we have.  I can't thank you enough.  I loved you, I will miss you, but I hope to not need you.

Broken ankle to 5k training, starts now!!

This weekend marked a huge milestone towards my recovery.  Earlier in the week I told myself I would walk one mile at the San Leandro Marina.  It's one of my favorite trails and it's flat.  I've only been walking on both feet for about 2-weeks and I had one physical therapy (PT) session under my belt.  Even after the first  PT session, I knew there was a lot of work and pain that was headed my way.

Sure enough, after my second PT session, I was in a lot of pain, but I wasn't going to be discouraged.

During PT, while there wasn't a lot of progress made, I did celebrate a victory, which I used as motivation to hit the Marina as I had planned.  Rather than push myself too far, my smarter self prevailed and I set out to walk a half mile.  It was such a joy being back out on the trail; crutch and all.  It was just as cold and windy as I had remembered it to be.  That will be my training spot for a while until I get stronger to tackle small hills.  I can't let a little pain stop me from meeting my goal.  Like Dr. Lundy told me when I stated to him completing a 5k was my intention, I will just have to be prepared and have ibuprofen on hand for the pain.

Happy trails to me...until we meet,  again

Thanks for welcoming me back San Leandro Marina!
